Housing project in the North and East
Budget Speech para. 305: "There is a serious shortage of proper housing in the North and the East, demanding urgent attention. We will expedite the construction of 50,000 houses for which I propose to allocate Rs. 5,000 million."
Promise Revised: The project initially focused on building houses in the North and the East but has been revised to include the Central province.
Allocation Revised: Revised to Rs. Mn 6,000. However the responsible party (according to budget speech) Ministry of Housing and Construction has been given only Rs. 1,767 Mn.
Responsible Institution Revised: The proposal has been split between Ministry of Hill Country, New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development and Ministry of Prison Reform, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs.
